Desert Island Disc - page for Pam by Sherry

Here's the page I did for Pam.
I had a choice of 2 and as I just so happened to
have the sheet music for one of them - easy decision!

It is 'Erborne Dich' from St Matthew's Passion by Bach.

I transferred a page of the music onto fabric
and stitched it onto the backing circle of fabric.
I stitched various ribbons around the edge to
represent the circle of thorns.

The image is another fabric image transfer,
padded and stitched onto the music.

I used some of Pam's ribbon to make a cross
edged with some distress ink.

That's it for me - all the circle journal pages finished!
It was really good to end on a fabric one as I'd started
my own on fabric too.
I've so enjoyed working on everyones journals,
and seeing all the different styles.

I'm looking forward to getting my own one back now too.

Thanks Sarah for organising such a great collaborative project xx

I'll be posting Pam's journal back to her tomorrow -
by recorded delivery.

SHERRY'S DID FABRIC CJ - SPOILER ALERT!

This journal is still currently in my possession and won't be winging it's way to Donna until I hear from her to send it on special delivery.  However, that doesn't stop me posting what I've done on the journal

First up my entry - the track We are Young by Fun.  Within the lyrics are the words, my friends were in the bathroom flying higher than the Empire State.  So I had to recreate the Empire State building, I refrained from adding a bath (or bathroom come to that), I sprayed the background fabric with fabric paint which was misbehaving and created the 'splats'  I then machine stitched my interpretation of the Empire State building with a mix of straight and applique stitch.  Then I added a blue fabric pen to fill in the sky, hand cut the felt clouds and stitched them on.

I almost added a silhouette of a person flying in the sky but decided against it as I was please with what I'd done up to this point and didn't want to spoil it.
Then it was time to add to other entries, Sarah's entry is sooooooooo lovely, I added a little tiny amount of applique stitching in places around the page, similar to the bit you can see near the 'knee bit' on the silhouette (can't see it - I told you it was subtle!)
Then I add a quilted stitch around the picture
Close up you can see the machine stitch
I added further machine stitching to the squares on this and a gold tie back to the curtain.
That you can see slightly better here.
 And the stitching here
On this one I went over the words in an applique stitch - really putting my machine through its paces to get the letters done - as there were quite a few tight corners.  I also added yellow applique to the top of the heart that you can just about make out.
Up close you can see the lettering.
On this entry more machine stitching, edging the bottom of the skirt elements and adding decorative stitches.
 Up close
Tiny amount of additional elements on this - machine stitch top bottom and right
Which you can see better here
 here
 and here
and finally to this piece I added the white applique stitch across the piece
Which you can see better here.
So it's ready for it's last leg of the journey - when Donna is ready!

Desert Island Discs - page for Sonja

There were only three songs left, I chose
'The Boys of Summer' by Don Henley.
I didn't think I knew the song, until I heard it - I just
hadn't known what it was called or who it was by!

I printed out the embracing couple and stuck them
onto the background which I painted with acrylics - there's
also a little bit of stickles around the moon and on the water,
but you can't see it here.

Here's the back

I had to use an image of a woman wearing Wayfarers
because of what Sonja had wrote :)
The background is sprays inks and another
silhouette of a solitary man this time.

Hope this fits the bill Sonja.

I didn't have time to add to any of the previous entries
this time, but they are all looking great.

Sonja's CJ is now on it's way to Pam

Nigel's Desert Island Disc CJ - by Sherry

Fewer songs to choose from now but as you can see
I chose 'The Lark Ascending' by Vaughan Williams.
Beautiful music, but no lyrics to work with!
Luckily, Nigel had provided the reasons behind why
this made his top ten, so I worked with that.

For the front cover one lark is ascending from
what is supposed to be stormy clouds.
I used handmade paper, distress inks and
some liquid pearls.

Sorry Nigel, this probably looks nothing like the
abandoned airfield you spent many happy hours
in but let's just say it's my interpretation!
I used Pan Pastels for the sky and fields
and rubber stamped some wild flowers with
distress ink.

It's at times like this I really wish I could draw and paint,
but nevertheless, I like the end result - and maybe
it will be added to before it arrives back home.

I added to all of the previous pages as follows:-

Virginia's 'Brighton Rock' -
I rubber stamped a postage stamp with the Queen's head on.

Sian's 'Tainted Love' -
I rubbed some metallic rub on paste around the
title and added some splodgy rubber stamping.

Pat's 'Ultravox' -
A rubber stamped flourish to the back page

Donna's 'A New England' -
Painted the girls' stockings red to match their lips

Karen's 'Freebird' -
Added a bird to the front cover

... and finally to Nigel's own page 'Caroline',
I added a denim heart with 'Quo' written on.

Hope this is all ok and I'm looking forward
(yes, actually looking forward, and not so nervous now)
about the next one!

Karen's Desert Island Discs CJ - by Sherry

This is my contribution to Karen's Desert Island Discs CJ.
The song I chose was by Emerson Lake and Palmer - 'Cest La Vie'.

I hadn't heard this song before but took inspiration for the page
from the first verse of the song
"Have your leaves all turned to brown
Will you scatter them around you"

I used my Gelli plate and the page went through various stages
before I was finally satisfied with it.

The little folder on the front has a button closure and opens
up to reveal a rubber stamped image of 'gratitude' and
an umbrella with little hearts raining down on it.
I thought this appropriate for Karen's reason for choosing this song.

Hope it's OK for you Karen.

I took a deep breath and added to other contributors' pages ....

To Sian's page - Bird Gerhl
I added a little metallic rub on paste to the bottom left hand corner -
to further highlight the embossing.

To Pat Beaumont's page - Sweet Child of Mine
I didn't add to as it was so full already.

To Karen's own page - Ave Maria
I added some metallic rub on paste to the door.
(I must just say that I think this page is really beautiful).

To Virginia's page - Purple Rain
I added some clear embossing to the purple raindrops.

Finally, to Donna's page - The Final Cut
I added a little varnish around the eyes to
highlight the tears.

Now, to think about The Exquisite Corpse Project
- thanks for the email Sarah, safely received :)
